So, what is SEO Toronto? SEO is
short for Search Engine Optimization. And, the reason why I'm
using the term SEO
Toronto instead of just plain 'SEO' is because it's a
more targeted search term for those looking for SEO in the Toronto
area.
You will see several instances of SEO Toronto throughout
this article and as you will discover there is a specific
reason for doing so.
There are many definitions for SEO but the one I
like the best is; optimizing your website
so that it can be found, indexed and ranked high in the organic
listings by a major search engine.
What is the difference between organic listings
that you see on the left hand side of a search engine results
page and the pay per click listings on the right? Organic means
that you cannot buy, bribe or otherwise influence anyone to get
there. It carries with it a lot of credibility because there is
the perception of brand leadership. 85% of
all click-throughs come from the organic listings on page
one of a search result.
PPC or pay-per-click means that you have to bid
against other companies a certain amount of money that you are
willing to pay for each click through that you get. These listing
are on the right hand side of a search result for a keyword phrase.
Statistics though are pretty clear in that only
5% of all click throughs come from a PPC listing. Why?
Because most people know that it's advertising. Not only that,
even the best PPC ads will cost you 50% of your profit. Organic
listings, on the other hand, are FREE!
So, how do you go about getting a top
organic listing?
Getting listed on the front page of Google is a
combination of on-site optimization
techniques and off-site optimization
techniques. In other works there are strategic things you need
to do to your website itself and strategic things you need to
do outside of your website to help you get an optimized position
on a search results page.
Most major search engines have an algorithm that
stores web pages in a large database and then determines the ranking
of each individual page.
But, before you even try to optimize your site you
must do your research first. For example,
why would you optimize your website for a particular search phrase
if you do not know whether that search phrase actually gets any
traffic. For example; how do you know if the keyword phrase that
you've chosen is popular enough to use?
That's why you have to do your research. The best
tool for this is Wordtracker. Wordtracker is a subscription based
service that will tell you what popular search phrases you should
be using. Not only will it tell you how many
people per day will be searching for a particular keyword
phrase on all the different major search engines but it will also
tell you what your competition is doing and how many other sites
are using the same keyword phrase.
Once you determine your keyword phrases then you
have to first start building your website using those exact keyword
phrases. This is where on-site optimization becomes important.
There are several strategic places to use your keyword phrases.
However, exactly where to put them and how many times you should
use them is a secret known only to those who developed the search
algorithms. Therefore the decision of how to best do on-site optimization
is left up to the SEO
Toronto experts and the likelihood of them telling you
how it works is slim to none.
Yet, there are basic principals to adhere to such
as; make sure each of your web pages has plenty of textual content
relevant to the keyword phrase subject and use only 1 or 2 keyword
phrases for each of your pages. If you just place the keyword
phrase throughout the text so that it makes verbal sense, you'll
be doing it way better than most. Also you have to place your
keyword phrases in the title and description of your head section.
After you've constructed your pages using the most
relevant keyword phrases that you chose from using Wordtracker
then you need to start your off-site optimization.
Off-site optimization means that you need several
incoming links from other websites that are in your vertical
niche market or what we call authority sites. Authority sites
are sites which are considered powerful because they have plenty
of rich content to offer visitors. Determining which sites are
relevant and how to get links from them is what search engine
optimization experts get paid for. However, many so-called experts
do not understand this process so be very careful.
Many SEO
Toronto companies will try to build your incoming links
too quickly by using link farms schemes and other black hat techniques.
Many do not even realize that it can harm you by doing this and
even though it may give you some initial benefit, you will lose
in the long term as search engine algorithms become more sensitive
to these strategies. Remember, nothing can replaced good rich
content so make sure you have a lot of it.
Incoming links should be built slowly over time
and that's what creates your link popularity.
One-way incoming links are better than reciprocal links because
a search engine algo sees this as another site voluntarily linking
to you because your site has good relevant content.
There are very secret and strategic ways to build
your incoming links but that is beyond the scope of this article.
My suggestion is that if you do not know how to do this, do not
trust anyone else to do it unless they have proof.
That is why I built this web page; to show you the
proof. The most likely keyword phrase that you would have chosen
to find this page is 'seo
toronto'. There is on-site optimization techniques built
into this page that actually attract a good search engine placenta.
There is also significant off-site optimization and incoming links
to this page and this overall website that create the all important
link-popularity.
If you want to know more about search engine optimization
and strategic internet marketing practices my highest recommendation
is that you educate yourself first before hiring anyone. You can
do this by taking our full-day intensive internet marketing course
which I offer several times throughout the year.
I have taught several hundred companies how to capitalize
on the growing popularity of the internet to sell their products
and services. It's not so important exactly what you sell online,
but how you sell it that's important.
To win on the internet you need the traffic that comes with good
SEO but you also need good conversion strategies to convert that
traffic into leads and sales.
